Every spring, Arizona’s tarantulas emerge in search of mates, and this curious visitor decided to climb the wall outside my home. Rather than letting the opportunity crawl away, I gently encouraged her onto my dartboard for a portrait that seemed to ask, “Shall we play a game?” Don’t worry—no arachnids were harmed during this photo shoot. She was safely returned to continue her journey, leaving behind one of the most unexpected and entertaining wildlife portraits I’ve ever captured.
