Lonely Saguaro Sunset

This was one of those skies that kept building instead of fading out. The clouds stacked up, the light pushed through in spots, and everything started to feel a little bigger than it should. The color wasn’t even the main thing—it was the way the light moved through the clouds. You’d get these pockets where it would break through, then close up again a few seconds later. The saguaros and the ridgeline just stayed dark against it, which made the whole sky stand out even more. Nothing in the foreground was competing with it—it was all about what was happening above. I didn’t plan anything here. Just watched it develop and took the shot while it was doing its thing. That’s usually when they turn out the best.
